“Colorist Study #3” is part of a group of paintings where the subject matter was another of my paintings called “Enchanted Forest” which I had completed a few years earlier. All the paintings in this series of eight artworks are identical in subject matter.
This whole series was my first of many experimentations with colours and hues where under established principles of mixing colours on a canvas, my choice of colour went against these traditions and in some cases, I went out-of-my-way to challenge these practises. Also, it was at this time that I discovered how to create luminosity “within” paints and to use variations of light diffusion within a painting to increase exponentially depth and dimension when viewed in any type of lighting. Today, this series of painting is very representative of my artistic work.
My colorist paintings are mostly scenes from the beautiful Gatineau/Laurentian Hills in western Quebec just north of Canada’s capital city Ottawa; the unspoiled Algonquin/Nipissing regions of northern Ontario and the majestic Rocky Mountains in western Canada. For more information regarding the painting mediums and techniques that were used to create this artwork, visit the “Colourist Art” page section on this website.
