“A Moment of Solitude” was the second of six paintings that is part of the “Moment” collection. Two or three times a year, I intentionally go off on tangents for several weeks to paint something different and to research other artistic styles where I can apply my colorist techniques. Going on these creative forays, that I call them, is my way to avoid becoming a “Bubble Gum Artist.” They allow me to refresh my inventive and imaginative sides after portraying landscapes for many months. In this particular series, it was creating unprovocative nudes that projected an emotional moment in time rather than a sensual image. Thus, the titles of each painting.
This series was my first attempt to paint the form of a person and not a landscape or some urban space. Since one of my colorist techniques is to minimize the details in a painting; I basically applied the same approach by making the hands, feets and faces very vague but to create a specific excitement throughout the artwork. After completing the first moment painting, I decided to do a series where I would express, in each painting, a different state of mind by using a different position and facile expression. For more information regarding the painting mediums and techniques that were used to create this artwork, visit the “Colourist Art” page section on this website.
