PREPARATION: Minimum of two layers of gesso paint primer is added to insure paint adhesiveness and durability
SURFACE FINISH: The acrylic paint surfaces were protected with an artist varnish to preserve the vividness of the colors and to minimize potential air pollution. The visible luminosity and other effects are created wholly by the liquefied oil paint mixtures and other techniques developed by the artist. No surface refinishing was done to these parts of the painting.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I am the type of artist who enjoys experimenting with new painting products and mixing various visual art mediums to create an effect to achieve something special in a painting. This has allowed me to discover incredibly unique techniques that now defines my artwork and my artist portfolio. I also experiment on a regular basis with different art styles such as abstract, rupestral and portraits where I apply the same distinctive techniques and brilliant colors to produce paintings that even, on occasion, surprise me personally.

“Burning Sun” is very representative of my experimentation to achieve an effect. When this painting was created, I was looking for different techniques to give body and presence to the sun’s that were now an integral part in all of my paintings. In the case of this art work, I had decided to use an acrylic paint and to create a special effect that would give the sun extra body. Going back to my chemistry school days and the fact that acrylic paint is water based, I added some baking soda to the paint and within a few minutes the mixture was making bubbles of carbon dioxide. Once I had figured out the right combination of acrylic, water, hardener, to fasten the paint together to maintain integrity, and when to optimize the adding of the soda into the mix, I had something very unique to work with and a new technique to apply to my paintings. In the case of Burning Sun, the bubbles and bursted bubbles gave this sun exactly what I was looking for to contract it to the radiating sky.
