ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Colorist Tree #1 is the first of a series of twelve paintings named “colorist tree” that I started in late 2017 as an experimentation with odd mixing of colors and mediums. This particular artwork No.1 is similar to the first five or six paintings of the initial grouping. During its creation, I used mostly transparent color paints (like glass) with an oil base for hardiness and durability. As always, when I decide to go forward with a successful experiment, I retain my first few paintings and release them only to the general public once the majority have been sold.

As a colorist artist this form of painting is representative of my artistic work. My landscapes are mostly scenes from the beautiful Gatineau/Laurentian Hills in western Quebec just north of Canada’s capital city Ottawa; the unspoiled Algonquin/Nipissing regions of northern Ontario and the majestic Rocky Mountains in western Canada.

Most of my artwork is created in my studio located in Gatineau, Quebec. The landscape scenes of mountains, fields, rivers, and lakes are from photographs that I have collected over the years and moments of inspirations when I was doing walkabouts somewhere in the backwoods. It is to these landscapes and memories that I apply my colorist art style, my own brand of perspective and unique painting methods.

I am the type of artist who enjoys experimenting with new painting products and mixing various visual art mediums to create an effect to achieve something special in a painting. This has allowed me to discover incredibly unique techniques that now defines my artwork and my artist portfolio. I also experiment on a regular basis with different art styles such as abstract, rupestral, modern and portraits where I apply the same distinctive techniques and brilliant colors to produce paintings that even, on occasion, surprise me personally.
